Well, that didn't take long

Wow! What a start for the House! Hours after introducing several dozen bills (see the previous item on the blog) the House Taxes Committee passed one of them.

Quoting the House Information Service:

Sponsored by Rep. Sandy Wollschlager (DFL-Cannon Falls), HF8, conforms Minnesota's income tax to federal income tax changes enacted since the 2006 House session concluded.

Wollschlager said the changes would increase the tuition expense deduction up to $4,000 and the teacher classroom expense deduction up to $250; allow military personnel to count tax-exempt combat pay at earned income for the purpose of qualifying to make tax deductible contributions to IRAs; and allow people age 70 1/2 years and older to make direct charitable contributions from an IRA to a charity.

Ah, but there's more! In one day, that's 1 point for the bill being filed, 5 for it being heard in committee, 10 for passing a committee, and 15 for being sent to the House floor. Thirty-one points.

But wait, there's more! Thirty-five state reps have their names attached to it. Rep. Joe Mullery is one of them, so he should retain his spot today atop the power rankings.

Standings and stats to be updated shortly.
