Big ups to Neil

I played Neil Young's Harvest Moon this afternoon and realized all over again what a freakin' talent that dude is, not that he doesn't get his fair share of cred.. But it made me wonder if he sorta falls into the looming shadow cast by the Bob Dylan's and John Lennon's of the world.
I don't have a ton of his records, but it made me interested in digging a little deeper.

Neil Young is a fantastic writer, musician, and IMO (yes, I know some folks may disagree with me on this one) singer. Harvest, Harvest Moon, and Prairie Wind....all of his stuff, but those 3 are true gifts.

I always have respect for an artist when their music transcends from the genre that it was written for, into all other genres. I didn’t know much about Neil Young until I was in a club in Moorhead, listening to a local band whose name I can not remember (But they were opening for Trip Shakespeare). If I remember correctly, it was Dec 1989, around Christmas, and the Berlin wall had just fallen. This band broke into a punk version of “Rocking in the Free World”. The crowd was moshing and it was just a really cool experience because even though I was thousands of miles from the Berlin Wall, I still felt like I was experiencing history in my own way. After that, I fell in love with Neil Young and his lyrics. I think he is up there with Dylan...
