« Happy New Year | What should our first song be? » Mary Lucia fans - check this out!January 03, 2005 We've just heard from Mary Lucia that she's accepting a full-time DJ position at 89.3! We are really excited to have Mary on board. Mary has recently been free-lancing as a writer, actor, and voice-over talent. You've probably seen her work in The Rake where she has a regular column called, "Soundtrack to Mary." She has also appeared in live theater productions at the Frank Theater and Theater 911. Mary began her media career doing nights at Rev 105 and later co-hosted mornings on Zone 105. She has also hosted a talk show on 1500 KSTP. Mary is closely identified with the vibrant local music scene and her passion and knowledge will help create the personality of the new 89.3. Here's what Mary has to say about her new gig: Welcome Mary! Posted by Sarah Lutman at 09:51 AM

Hooray! When I think of the old Rev 105, one memory always pops into my mind -- listening on my old Fischer boom box to Mary Lucia talking with local bands, not really doing an interview, just chatting. It was a great show, and Marcy Lucia is an awesome DJ. Congratulations! Posted by: Brian Dellert at January 3, 2005 10:23 AMWelcome back, Mary! You were the reason I listened to 105 and the reason I pick up The Rake. Anxiously awaiting your return.... Posted by: Renee at January 3, 2005 10:59 AMThis is the best news I've read all year. I love Mary Lucia. Please, please, please let her do mornings again. She was the best thing that ever happened to morning radio in the Twin Cities. Posted by: Jodi at January 3, 2005 12:15 PMI was just talking about this yesterday, called my friend out in DC to brag about the new station. He said, and I quote, "All you need now is Mary Lucia." I said, and I quote, "Ho Ho Ho! Mary Lucia!" Can't Wait. I know Mr. Oak has been forced to work for the man for quite awhile now - but I think he needs another shot on a good station. He's wasted on Corporate Radio. Posted by: Dieter at January 3, 2005 12:15 PMYes! Yes! Yes! To Mary, Steve, this radio station and saving is from the homgenous radio inflicted upon us for so long. I have to say this is, by far, the best news of last year. Congratulations, to all of us. Posted by: Shellae at January 3, 2005 01:36 PMwow! this is getting interesting! Posted by: erik at January 3, 2005 01:59 PMMary, Steve, THORN!!! I'm overwhelmed. Does this mean that I can actually turn my radio to the fm dial now? Excellent. Can't wait and congratulations to all. Posted by: ana at January 3, 2005 02:26 PMThere have been radio stations in the past that I have listened to exclusively because of the DJ's... Thank you so much for hiring those same DJ's! I am looking forward to the start of a promising new station... Posted by: Chris at January 3, 2005 03:21 PMYay! Can't wait to hear Mary on the radio again! Posted by: meghan at January 3, 2005 03:45 PMDitto to Dieter's comments. Congrats Mary. TC radio has missed her and Brian O. in the a.m.'s. You just need one more Oake piece to the puzzle. Posted by: Chris at January 3, 2005 05:48 PMWhen Mary was on 105, I used to sit in my car for extended periods just to listen to her. She usually had something profound to say & always made me smile &/or laugh. I spoke to her once at Bryant-Lake Bowl when she was the host of the live local music show there. What a talent she is. Posted by: Tom at January 4, 2005 01:48 AMYou have re-newed my faith in this city again by bringing the ever-hip,intoxicating, hilarious, brilliant Mary Lucia back - i was statring to wonder about this place! Posted by: Jessica at January 4, 2005 02:34 PMWow! Steve, Thorn, Mark and now Mary has signed on. This is a very powerful combination of on-air talent, sharp wit and musical knowledge all under one roof. Can't wait for day one of KCMP. Hope that Bill Verville has his demo tape in the interview pile. Kevin Cole too!!! Best of luck, When Rev 105 went away, I felt like the rug had been pulled out from under me. Because of the playlist? Hekno. The morning show with Brian Oak and Mary Lucia. To this day I remember some of their show promos that aired only a day or two. (anyone remember... "I'm peeing right now and you can't tell...'cause it's the future!") Mary Lucia back on the air..."It don't get no better than this!"--annon. Dan Posted by: Dan Humiston at January 4, 2005 11:50 PMI really hope Mary Lucia is on in the mornings, She and Brian Oake made mornings an alright thing, her presence has bean greatly missed on TC radio, yes, from time to time we get to hear Brian on in the mornings and how refreshing it is to listen to someone who actually cares about the music they are playing and actually has some knowledge about whats going on in the world to have an informed opinion.. I'm so excited I think I'll pee Posted by: bilzabub at January 5, 2005 09:44 AMJeez Louise! If you manage to track down Shelley for the late night slot and pull off a Soul Coughing reunion, I think my thinning hair will return and my beer belly will disappear, because you will have recreated all that was good about 1996. Posted by: Geof at January 5, 2005 10:50 AMAnd it gets better and better!!! I saw the mention of Kevin Cole and I had a KJ104 flashback ... So happy to see that Mary is back in!! Posted by: Tyma at January 5, 2005 01:20 PMI'm just waiting to hear word that they have brought Shawn from what ever Public radio station she is at in the Northwest Back for this station. Posted by: bilzabub at January 5, 2005 02:25 PMGeof, not too hard to track down Shelley, she does mid-days on Drive 105. Not that you actually get to hear her voice more than 10 minutes a day. Keith Posted by: Keith at January 5, 2005 03:31 PMFantastic-I'll be listening from NYC Posted by: Seth at January 5, 2005 03:57 PMI'm so happy I could pee! Mary Lucia is the goddess of all local media, while Mark Wheat is radio royalty. With Newsboy 2000 at the helm and Thorn in the ranks, I think you've reached radio nirvana! Posted by: AmyC at January 5, 2005 03:57 PMThanks Keith--goes to show what I can stand listening to, huh? (Basically, Radio K and the "news and info" MPR.) I am flat out *dying* for this station to go live! Any word on an on-air date? I hear ya Geof. Didn't mean to imply that I listen to Drive much at all. Actually right now I listen almost exclusively to a station called XMU on XM radio. (oh alright, and the dirty comedy channel, so sue me!) Great music, but no DJs at all. I also cannot wait to hear this new station. Exciting music AND intelligent DJs? Sign me up. Posted by: Keith at January 6, 2005 01:07 PMIndeed, I thought everything was going to hell in the world and now Mary is back- I guess I will reconsider that judgment. I recall many mnay years ago she was doing a live broadcast at Nye's. I went up and introduced myself. I was as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. I can't recall if this was with 104 or not, but it is great to see my old home finally getting back to its excellent radio roots. BOOYA! Posted by: Seth at January 6, 2005 03:18 PMHOORAY! I've missed Mary! I can't to hear her voice again! Posted by: Steve at January 6, 2005 05:04 PMVery cool! This station is shaping up to be much like the beloved REV 105. It will certainly sound that way-- given that about half of the old air staff has signed on. Can't wait to hear it-- even if it's over the internet here in Northeast Wisconsin. Posted by: Matt at January 7, 2005 12:21 AMAny one remember Moonlight Meditations on Rev 105? It was played on Sunday nights but I forget who the host /DJ was. I would love to to see this appear again. Posted by: theo at January 8, 2005 11:19 AMSure! Moonlight Meditations was a great show and was hosted by a great DJ by the name of Shawn Stewart. Posted by: keith at January 8, 2005 02:09 PMCan't remember who the host was?! Good god, man! Might as well say "Any one else remember the Sistine Chapel? It was in Rome but I can't remember who painted the ceiling." It was Shawn Stewart. wow. i actually do occasional google searches of mary lucia, just hoping something pops up. jackpot. i can get guaranteed dreamy eyes and sparkly smiles from my wife just for bearing this news. don't mean to heap deity sized pressure on you mary, but next to the war, w, and the tsunami, i anticipate your wry, droll, biting, velvety voice in our daily lives like manna from heaven. " sun is coming to the cold places, now i can feel" Excellent! I now live in Minneapolis and there is alot more for radio listening to choose from here, but I used to live in Rochester and there are no good radio stations there. If this station has a non-repetetive mix of College Rock, Neo-Folk, Singer-Songwriter, Hip Hop, and a touch of Punk; MPR will be instantly the cream of the crop of Rochester radio. This is a brilliant move by MPR. I enjoy there talk stations, and enjoy classical music occasionally, but my roots in music are in the genres listed above. This will attract a whole new generation of listeners to MPR. Posted by: Justin at January 15, 2005 09:31 AMCan't wait to hear Mary Lucia on the Radio, Mark Wheat, and Steve Nelson. I would listen to any of them on any shift! Here's a joke. I called Zone104 to say Goodbye to Steve Nelson on his last day, and I told him and Brian that the "Force" told me someday I would hear Steve Nelson back on the radio in Minneapolis some day. I don't think he believed me! I love it when I'm right! Hello folks nice blog youre running Posted by: lolita at January 19, 2005 07:19 PMMary Lucia is the BEST THING to happen to morning readio in the Twin Cities! Glad to hear she's back!!! Posted by: Mort at January 24, 2005 02:37 PMGo "Little Mary", Go!!! " Posted by: anita malarkey at January 27, 2005 02:41 PMwelcome back mary! 'the current' is seriously making me want to move back to the twin cities! but thanks to al gore's invention, THE INTERNET, i can enjoy you from way over here in palm springs. thank you MPR! thank you GOD!! =^o.0^= How could this not be a good thing? Radio is amazing! It will be good to listen to Mary again. And it's all because of radio! I love it..you tune it to a station and listen to tunes. And then someone (like Mary) talks and then you get a commercial or public service announcment and then you get to listen to more tunes! And so on and so on...sometimes 24 hours a day! Who has time to work when there is radio to listen to? Posted by: Jack Inthabox at January 30, 2005 02:15 AMIs Mary Lucia's show (M-F from 2:00pm - 7:00pm) streamed on the Web site? It looks like it's not.... I live in NYC and wanna hear her again... Posted by: Todd at January 30, 2005 07:34 PMdjnqiwootunxlnatjkzjbefijhgleuxsdlawdlyxvhfoxnobju mary lucia has a mezmerizing voice and has been part of a legacy in the TC for over a decade! viva la' rev 105! I will never join Public Radio as long as they inflict Mary Lucia upon us. Other than her, this is the best station anywhere. With her, I rarely listen to it. Mary Lucia is terrible, constantly rambling on about nothing, except possibly her own neuroses. Fire her now and save The Current! Posted by: ML Must die at June 9, 2005 03:48 PMHello fellow listeners,

I've been meaning to wax ever so eloquently on why Mary Lucia NEEDS to be on this station. But now that it has come to pass all I can say is...
THANK YOU!
I will now go cancel my XM subscription....
