U.S. government spending on Iraq war

While the eventual total costs of the U.S. war in Iraq are estimated to run higher than $3 trillion, the federal government has spent a little less than $700 billion, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

Here's the CBO breakdown of Iraq and Afghanistan spending the past decade:


Coincidentally, that total budget authority figure at the bottom of the chart is roughly equivalent to the $1.3 trillion U.S. budget deficit.
