Veterans issues at center stage

Posted at 6:20 AM on November 11, 2011 by Paul Tosto

Online and on the air, Minnesota Public Radio News today will look at veterans' issues from lots of different angles.

From the MPR New editors:

On Morning Edition, Cathy Wurzer visits the "In Their Own Words" Veterans Museum in Perham.

On Midmorning: The current unemployment rate for veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars is 13.3 percent, well above the national average. Kerri Miller looks at why the rate is so high, and what veterans can do to market their skills to civilian employers.

On Midday at 11 a.m., two Vietnam War nurses talk about their experiences with Gary Eichten and historian Kim Heikkila, author of Sisterhood of War: Minnesota Women in Vietnam." At noon it's radio broadcaster Norman Corwin's WWII radio drama "On a Note of Triumph."

We'll be online today looking for insight and reporting on veterans and their needs, especially in this economy.
