Looks like the knives are starting to come out for Carlos Gomez, and it's not hard to see why. After his exciting debut, it's pretty much been all downhill at the plate, culminating in a four-strikeout performance on Tuesday night. No wonder he sat last night. Gomez is now at .230/.247/.310, with an eye-opening 24 strikeouts and merely 2 walks. The bright spots have been his defense and his baserunning (9-10 in stolen bases), but you have to wonder if that's going to be enough for Gardy to keep putting him in the lineup every day.
The bottom line is that Gomez has to figure out a way to get on base more, and that's going to mean being more patient and learning to lay off the breaking pitches. But Nick Nelson over at the Nick & Nick blog wonders if the Twins are really interested in curbing Gomez's aggressive nature at the plate.
So what should the Twins do with Go-Go? Let him figure it out at the major league level, or send him down to Rochester to learn some plate discipline?
