Twins sign Livan Hernandez

You’ve probably heard by now that the Twins have inked veteran pitcher Livan Hernandez to a 1-year deal worth between $5-6 million. I like this signing. Let’s face it, minus Hernandez, the Twins most experienced starting pitcher is probably Boof Bonser.

Hernandez is a bonafide innings eater. He’s pitched over 200 innings every year since 1998, sans 1999 when he tallied a mere 199 2/3 frames. The husky hurler, who turns 33 this month, is a two-time All Star and 1997 World Series MVP. He went 11-11 with a 4.93 ERA last year with Arizona.

I’ll never figure out how a proven guy like this gets a one-year deal and Carlos Silva gets 4-years $48 million. If your team is in big game, who would you rather have on the hill – Silva or Hernandez?
