Baseball's GM winter meetings have begun in Florida and so the Hot Stove League is ablaze. It's a great time of year for dreaming.
Being a Cleveland Indians fan, I know all there is to know about Coco Crisp. I like Coco Crisp fine. But Coco Crisp is as good as Coco Crisp is ever going to get... and that's not very good. And my head is going to explode if I hear more talk about the Twins getting Coco Crisp to replace Torii Hunter.
Minnesota Twins, what part of "your team is boring" don't you get?
In Boston today, they're all atwitter about dumping Crisp because apparently his name is being mentioned -- if only by some ink-stained wretches -- in a trade involving Johan Santana.
At the Boston Globe and NESN (New England Sports Network) today, Bob Ryan and Jackie McMullen discuss a scenario in which Santana goes to Boston for young pitchers Jon Lester, Clay Buckholz and Crisp. (See the video here).
Let me just approach this from another direction. Rather than give up the best pitcher in baseball Twins, in exchange for a couple of pitchers who will one day become the next generation of pitchers to lose games 1-to-0, why not ask for the centerfielder that is making Crisp so expendable in the first place?
