Is it me, or is everyone going a little overboard with trying to get Pat Neshek on the All-Star Team? I can understand Neshek soliciting votes on his blog, but the constant campaigning on FSN seems a bit unseemly, especially the "Vote for Pat" t-shirts that Dick Bremer and Bert Blyleven were sporting at the end of tonight's telecast.
And as good a season as Neshek's having, check out the numbers on the other reliever among the five players vying for the last All-Star spot, Boston's Hideki Okajima. It's hard to argue against either.
In the end, my money is on either Detroit's Jeremy Bonderman or LA's Kelvim Escobar, who are both having great years and will probably get more recognition because they're starters. As important as middle relievers are these days, I don't think the average fans considers them All-Star material.
