There's just over 4 hours left to vote for the last two members of the All-Star Game. Pat Neshek's trying his hardest, but Boston's Hideki Okajima holds a slim lead over Detroit's Jeremy Bonderman, with Neshek in third. Doing his part to help is Newsday's Jim Baumbach, who wrote a nice article about Pat in today's paper. Over in the National League, Padres starting pitcher Chris Young is leading in the voting.
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick has put out a list of the top 9 position players approaching free agency, and Torii Hunter makes the list at #3. Do you think Carl Pohlad's going to shell out $75 million for 5 years?
Since his last loss on June 9, Johan Santana is 4-0 with a 1.54 ERA, and opponents are batting .184 against him. Midday host and noted baseball authority Gary Eichten predicts that Johan won't lose another game this year (and if he does lose, it will be 1-0 type affair), and will go on to win his third Cy Young Award.
With the Twins victory yesterday and Cleveland's loss, the Twins are 7.5 games back. MPR's Bob Collins says that despite the Tribe's great first half, he's got concerns about the bullpen, specifically closer Joe Borowski. Good point. I can't imagine any fan would feel too confident with a closer who has a 4.31 ERA.
And the Twins are currently down 5-2 to the Yankees.
