As Bonds closes in on record, this fan hopes he spends a short time at the top.

I've been trying to give Barry Bonds the benefit of the doubt. I've tried to overlook his bad moods, his potshots at the press and the bashing of his teammates (Jeff Kent anyone?). Steroids or not, hitting that many home runs is a tremendous thing to do. But I've had it with him. Mostly because of this story. He bashes Costas. He bashes Schilling and then he says the Braves pitchers didn't challenge him because they didn't throw fastballs. I can't stand it anymore. Apparently Bonds hasn't learned that you credit the team when you win and blame yourself when you lose. He also didn't learn any humility as he closes in on the record. Maybe I'm a slow learner. Maybe I was waiting for a jury to prove him guilty. Maybe I'm just a big dope.
But now I have a plan. I'm hoping it takes Bonds all season to break the record. That way the pressure will continue to mount and folks will wonder if he's too old, too rusty or just doesn't have it anymore. And then I hope he retires and watches as A-Rod closes in at warp speed. A-Rod is only 1 away from 500.
