The Milwaukee Brewers have gotten the things started a few days ahead of the trading deadline, getting San Diego Padres reliever Scott Linebrink in return for three pitchers from their farm system. Is it me, or does trading three pitching prospects, one of whom is pretty highly regarded, seem like a steep price to pay for a reliever? Especially when you consider that Linebrink is going to be a free agent at the end of the season. And if that trade has set the bar for what teams are going to ask for established veterans, you might as well forget about the Twins making any deals. In fact, this deal may indicate that we're in for a fairly slow trading deadline, with a lot of talk but not much action.
And speaking of the Twins, how'd you like the lineup that Gardy threw out there today? I know that they like to sit Mauer when it's a day game after a night game, and I know Rondell White could lose a body part at any moment, but it would have been nice to have a small amount of momentum heading into Cleveland, and without those guys in the lineup the team didn't have much of a shot.
They're certainly not making much of a case for Ryan to make a move.
