Just got back from a weekend trip New York City, where the tabloids and sports radio were all ARod all the time....and his canoodling with a woman other-than-his-wife wasn't even the top story. Of much greater interest was the incident that took place last Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays, when Rodriguez shouted something (either "mine," "ha," or "I got it" depending on who was telling the story) as he ran between two Toronto infielders trying to catch a pop-up, causing the ball to drop for a hit. From the reaction in New York, it seems the Blue Jays weren't the only ones who were pissed off about it. Even Joe Torre, speaking to WFAN's "Mike and the Mad Dog" show, admitted when pressed that he told Rodriguez not to do it again.
The whole thing made me think of the first base incident with AJ and Morneau from earlier in the week, and I just can't help feeling that if the two acts had been committed by players other than Rodriguez and Pierzysnki, there might not have been such an outcry. Heck, if Jeter did what Rodriguez did, Yankee fans would have added it to his list of "intangibles."
And in other news, City Pages has an interesting suggestion to help spark the Twins offense, which once again went cold over the weekend. Slammin' Sammy Sosa, anyone? .245/10/42 with a .468 slugging percentage isn't great, but it's certainly better than we're getting from Jeff Cirillo. And who knows when Rondell White's coming back. I certainly wouldn't give up much for him, but it would be interesting to see what it would take.
