The strange saga of J.D. Durbin....

Posted at 4:50 PM on April 17, 2007 by David Zingler

Remember J.D. “The Real Deal” Durbin? A 2nd round pick in 2000, he was supposed to be a fixture in the Twins rotation by now, instead the 25-year-old has found himself in baseball’s version of purgatory.

Out of options and untradable, the Twins released the former prospect on March 29. The Arizona native was quickly plucked off the waiver wire by the Diamondbacks and even got into a game, giving up 7 earned runs in 2/3 of an inning on April 4 against Colorado. That’s a 94.50 ERA in case you were wondering. He was released the next day.

Four days later, Boston claimed the right-hander off waivers only to designate him for assignment the following day. Friday the 13th proved to be lucky for Durbin however, as the Phillies picked him up on that date last week. It’s now four days later and he’s still on the team, but has yet to pitch.
