Ok, I've been struggling to come up with some witty way to introduce myself to y'all but have been coming up short. So... I'll start with the basics. I'm Tom Scheck and cover politics and state government for MPR. I also write on the Polinaut blog (check it out if you're interested in politics).
But I was looking for something more. Something that could fulfill my urge to talk sports. So here I am. Let me give you a little history about myself. I grew up outside of Philadelphia and grew up a Phillies fan. Ain't nothing like being a six year old boy watching Tug McGraw come on the mound in that 1980 World Series. I don't know if it was nerves or routine but he would hit that glove against his leg and the whole region would follow suit.
I then drifted away from the Phillies and started cheering for the Mets. I know it's awful but it happened. Blame my father. He's a lifelong Mets fan.
It's hard to be a fan of a team when you don't live in that city. Since I live in Falcon Heights, I'm backing the Twins even though I'm opposed to the DH.
I like listening to the game on the radio mostly because I think you react to the game differently. You hear the crack of the bat and wait for the announcer to get going. There's nothing like the anticipation of having the game told to you. Oh, there's one other reason. I can't stand those "circle me bert" signs. I know the kids love it but it drives me nuts.
I'll be posting on a scattered basis during the legislative session but will be on the regular clock after that. I'm sure you'll be sick of me by the All-Star Break. Gotta go. Johan's pitching tonight.
