The "big" signing you've been waiting for

...if by "big" you mean trouble and ERA. Sidney Ponson, he of the multiple arrests and recent ERA northward of 6.00, has been signed to a minor league deal with the Twins, hoping the change of scenery will do him good.

I know it's been really quiet in Twins Territory™ lately, but can you really expect any excitement or big results based on the off-season signings of Sidney Ponson, Rondell White, Luis Rodriguez, and Jeff Cirillo? Are the Twins just saving up for the eventual super giant contracts of Mauer, Morneau, and Santana?

On that note, based on the enormous contracts for mediocre talent that are happening this year, can you imagine what Johan Santana will command on the open market? It's almost not ridiculous to think he could get $30-40 million a year.
