At home they look like a World Series contender, everything seems to click. On the road however, they've lost nearly as twice as many times as they've won. Yes, these are the roller coaster, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Minnesota Twins, with their gaudy 37-11 home record and miserable 17-29 mark on the road.
(Note: Before you start waxing nostalgic about the 1987 Twins, who had a similar home/road record, remember they won just 85 games and that wonít get you anywhere in 2006).
14 of the Twinsí next 20 games are on the road against division rivals, including three game sets in Chicago (7/24-7/26) and Detroit (8/7-8/9). How the team performs in those 14 away games will ultimately determine if they will contend in the seasonís closing months. There isnít much margin for error and sweep at the hands of White Sox and/or Tigers could seal the fate of the 2006 Twins.
I think it is imperative that the Twins at least tread water, with a 7-7 mark in those games, which also happens to be my prediction. Who knows if that will keep them in the race, but anything less assuredly wonít.
