So the trade deadline came and went, and the Twins didn't fire the gun. Apparently they were all over the phones, but in the end we've got the same team. The same team that went 1-5 and lost Torii Hunter on their east coast trip.
As one GM said, "That team has very good pitching, but it's not going to win if it doesn't get more offense. To me, they're suspect at three of nine offensive positions. And now, with Hunter going down, that puts almost half their lineup in that category of not real good. They have to find a way to get a bat in August."
did they have to wait until the 11th hour to try and get a deal done? you and i and the rest of the world knew they were in trouble months ago. they tried bret boone. it didn't work on day one. the sox weren't going away...they just don't have a panic button or a sense of urgency. that only happens when carl's trying to line his pockets with more $$$. see: contracting the team. see: selling the team to anyone and everyone including a deal he made up in his head in south carolina. All to get stadium pressure to make him more money. i'm in doubt that even 5% of the proceeds of which would go to player salaries.
