ESPN's David Schoenfield chronicles each baseball team's Public Enemy No. 1, which could be a rival player, opposing manager, or team executive. The Twins archnemesis? Ozzie Guillen.
Since those of us in the world of mass media tend to ignore anything that goes on in the Upper Mississippi Region, unless it involves Randy Moss fake-mooning Packers fans, you may have missed the brewing rivalry between the Twins and White Sox. As the leader of the Sox, for Twins fans Ozzie isn't just an amusing quote machine who plays a fun brand of ball, but an insipid, dirty manager who can take his Ozzieball crap and go rot with the rest of the rats who live in the upper levels of U.S. Cellular Field.
There are actually quite a few former Twins on other teams hitlists. Christian Guzman's poor play is killing the Nationals, Eric Milton got a nice jab for his play with the Reds, and of course, there's the Atlanta Braves public enemy no. 1: Kent Hrbek. (That fat pig pulled Gant off first base!)
Dear Mr. Tesch,
The funny thing is, as far as I can tell, Twins fans don't seem to mind Ozzie that much--except that he's apparently made the team better. When Torii bowled into their catcher last year, while the rest of them were bitching and moaning, Ozzie said it was good baseball. It was a refreshing change. My public enemy #1 is Bud Selig, of course.
Yeah, I don't think Ozzie is really the Twins' worst enemy. He's more like one of the pesky filler enemies in between the big bad guys that get parts in blockbuster movie sequels. But if it's not Ozzie, who is it? Terry Pendleton? The legislature? Carl Pohlad? The Metrodome?
i vote frank thomas as the peskiest for the past decade. imho.
The Twins archnemesis is Carl Pohlad....excellent........
i'm a wishy-washy...flip flopper...can i change my vote to carl as well?
I'm a pretty big un-fan of C.C. Sabathia, myself. Doesn't he have a history of talking trash about the Twins?
