As long as the doctor wears a surgical mask instead of a goalie's mask...

Despite tempting fate in the worst way, it looks like Twins bullpen resident Grant Balfour made it through Tommy John surgery without notable disaster. This comes as somewhat of a relief. Now, I like to think of myself as a rational sort of person, the kind that doesn't allow his actions to be driven by superstition or monkeys. But if my doctor told me that I needed to have season-ending surgery? And that my future as a major-league pitcher (or a pitcher of any kind, really) hung in the balance? And then told me that the surgery was scheduled for Friday? The 13th? I would have asked to reschedule.
Then again, it looks like Balfour was safer under the knife than the rest of the Twins were out on the field.
