Words of sadness and outrage poured into Minnesota Saturday from across the nation on news that Minnesota House Democratic Leader Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed at their home in what officials say appears to be a politically motivated shooting.

State officials on Saturday urged people to not attend dozens of planned “No Kings” protests across Minnesota, as the suspect in the fatal shooting of a longtime state lawmaker earlier in the day remained at large — though crowds still showed up for the rallies.

The rescission bill that passed in the House Thursday would strip 16 organizations in Minnesota of more than $17 million. The bill now moves to the Senate, where it needs a simple majority to pass.
