The Current Fakebook with Amy Sedaris and Bound Stems

Wednesday, Nov. 15
8 p.m.
The Fitzgerald Theater

Ticket Information

The Current's Mary Lucia will host actress, comedian and author Amy Sedaris for the second installment of the Current Fakebook series. Musical guests for the show will be the Chicago band Bound Stems.

Ms. Sedaris is a former member of Chicago-based Second City and Annoyance Theatre comedy troupes. She is best known for her role in the television series Strangers with Candy, which she co-wrote with Paul Dinello and Stephen Colbert. She has also starred in the television series of the same name and the films School of Rock, Maid in Manhattan and Elf, has appeared on the television shows Monk and Sex and the City, and is a regular on the David Letterman Show. Her new book, I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence, features helpful tips on entertaining, etiquette and crafting.

Bound Stems debut full length, Appreciation Night, was released in September on Flameshovel Records, following four previous EP's. With the disc's completion, the band members have left their real jobs—high school history teacher, comic book art director, lab tech, hi-tech techs—"in favor of their heretofore fake job as a touring band."

About Amy Sedaris:
In addition to acting, Amy Sedaris runs a cupcake and cheese ball business ("Dusty Food Cupcakes") out of her kitchen. She lives with her mini-rex rabbit Dusty along with her imaginary boyfriend, Ricky, in Greenwich Village, though on a recent episode of the Late Show with David Letterman, she claimed Ricky had "died." Later, on City Arts and Lectures, a radio show recorded in San Francisco, Amy said that Ricky had not really died, which is a good thing since she "couldn't handle the pain."

(A "fakebook" helps a musician improvise or learn a song on the spot. Fakebooks contain the basic framework of songs-lyrics, melodies, and chord progressions-that can be used as a substitute for standard sheet music. Fakebook is also the name of an album by Yo La Tengo.)
