The mall staff monitors weather conditions throughout the day. In the case of severe weather, mall officials will notify stores and shoppers of tornado alerts via the public address system.

Upon confirmation of a tornado sighting or when public officials issue a "seek shelter" directive, store personnel and customers will be directed to the shelters in the mall. Mall staff conduct "sweeps" through common areas to direct people to shelter areas. There are designated shelter areas on each floor of the mall, and in the basement.

The mall's senior on-site person can also make the call if s/he feels conditions are so severe that a tornado could appear without warning.

The mall has 13 signs on display directing patrons to various shelter locations.
