4th District: Obi Sium

SNAPSHOT
Sium, 64, was born in Adengoda, Eritrea, in the Horn of Africa. He emigrated to the United States in 1973 and became a U.S. citizen in 1982.

Immigrant communities - including Hmong, Somalis, Eritreans and Ethiopians - could build a significant voting bloc in the district, Sium said.

Sium said he backs limited government, more power for the states and improvements in public schools. He also emphasizes his support for the U.S. military.

Sium faced fugitive Jack Shepard in the primary, and won with 64 percent of the votes cast.
