Gary Schiff announced his intention to run for Congress shortly after Rep. Martin Sabo announced he would not run for re-election. According to his Web site, his campaign will focus on several themes: Ending the war in Iraq, equal marriage rights for gay and lesbian Americans, universal health care, sustainable energy, and fair trade. As a City Council member in Minneapolis, he has represented Ward 9, located in the southeastern region of Minneapolis. The area stretches from Franklin Avenue to 38th Street and encompasses areas from the Midtown Greenway and Midtown Exchange to the Hiawatha Light Rail Transit Line.
