SNAPSHOT
When Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer announced in February 2006 that he would take on long-time incumbent Martin Sabo, the immediate reaction was "nice of the man to try, but that's Sabo's seat forever." Of course, at that time, nobody knew Sabo would not be a candidate in the election of 2006.
Nelson-Pallmeyer is relatively unknown, but name recognition wasn't his biggest hurdle -- Sabo was. Now, of course, name recognition is his biggest hurdle since others expected to jump into the race have more of it. He is a justice and peace professor at St. Thomas. He says "it is time to build an economy based on renewable energy. We must stop misusing the U.S. military as an oil protection service." He refers to the the war in Iraq as an "occupation," and says he will work to end it. According to his Web site he believes America "must promote peace, international law, living wages, progressive taxes, single-payer healthcare, veteran’s benefits, campaign integrity, and quality education.
