Gas prices will keep the regular campers at home

My family usually camps several times during the year, starting Memorial Weekend. This year we not only stayed home over the Memorial Weekend, we will not be making any of the traditional trips to Scenic State Park where the family donated to build two handicap sites. The price of gas has made me re-think many things I normally would have done during the summer. [MPR News: State park visits dip but gas prices may help rebound]

Camping and anything else that requires us traveling under the power of gas has been cut from our family plan. I actually turned down an offer for my children to spend days at a camp ground 30 minutes away due to the extra gas it would take me to drop them and pick them back up. Our leaders need to create a national crisis project to find a means of transportation for a large family that does not require gas before our country becomes a third world area just like all the places we now try to help.

Feedlots are alternative energy sources

There is lots of energy out there for those willing to look.

This is a great way to make electricity. [MPR News: Farmer uses methane to make electricity] It is also a well-proven way, which has been in use by farmers in other parts of the world for at least forty years. The best part is it works for many different types of manure, including hog manure. So, when will feedlot operators step up to the opportunity to upgrade their public image? And will other farmers follow suit?
