He's widely acknowledged as one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. Because of an injury to his right hand ( focal dystonia ), most likely caused by repetitive stress syndrome, his concert career came to an abrupt halt in 1965. He took that opportunity to regroup and take on the left-handed repertoire for the piano, in addition to becoming a conductor, an arts administrator and a renowned teacher. Minnesota Public Radio's Silvester Vicic talked with him about his career, his recent solo recital at Carnegie Hall, his philosophies on teaching, the arts and music, and his visit to the Twin Cities. http://music.minnesota.publicradio.org/features/0311_fleisher/?refid=0 Fri, 14 Nov 2003 09:00:00 -0600 International Piano-E Competition, 2002 The International Piano e-Competition is a first in many ways. Thereâs never been an international music competition of this scale in Minnesota before. Itâs the first competition that takes advantage of digital technology, providing a live performance equivalent to two members of the jury who will be in a hotel room in Tokyo listening to the same player that the judges in St. Paul will hear, at the same time. Itâs probably the first time that one can experience these young pianists live, new discoveries awaiting those who are ready to listen. http://music.minnesota.publicradio.org/features/0206_epiano/?refid=0 Mon, 10 Jun 2002 09:00:00 -0500
