Bill DeVille, Host

  • Dawes — Nothing Is Wrong...An album of expertly crafted songs, full of warm sun-drenched harmonies, heartbreak & wisdom beyond their years.
  • tUnE-yArDs — w h o k i l l...A star is born, her name is a Merrill Garbus. Love the afro-beat influence and her totally original use of a sampler.
  • Wilco — The Whole Love...Wilco never makes bad albums, but this one really stands out. It might be their most adventurous yet!
  • Raphael Saadiq — Stone Rollin'...This guy continues his mission to deliver 1st rate old-school soul and R&B. This one is grittier and more electric than his previous work & a really fun album to play “spot the influence” with!
  • Deer Tick — Divine Providence...Some of the best boozy barroom rock since the Replacements. They even cover that Westerberg fellow on the album!
  • Tom Waits — Bad As Me...Just the album you’d want from a living legend. He sounds like the voice of god, with a hangover and a nasty cigarette habit!
  • Haley Bonar — Golder...I’ve been a fan of hers for years, but with this one Haley really comes into her own as a singer and a songwriter. A great local cast of players took this album to a whole new level.
  • The Jayhawks — Mockingbird Time...A very welcome return! Really nice to have Mark Olson and those harmonies back intact!
  • TV On the Radio — Nine Types of Light...2011 was a tough year for this New York band, after losing longtime keyboard player Gerard Smith to cancer. They still managed another stellar album. Nobody sounds quite like these guys!
  • Givers — In Light...One of the great young bands top emerge in 2011. Another group, like tUnE-yARdS influenced by afro-beat.

Excellent albums were also made in 2011 by...
