Now in its third year, Rock the Cradle is a free day of family friendly music, fun and community involvement for kids and their grown-ups. Activities for the event let young kids (ages 0 - 8) and adults engage together and experience music through sound, movement, art, picking up an instrument and listening to live music performances.
ActivitiesStory Time with The Current DJs Grab a seat and listen to The Current's on-air hosts as they read some of their favorite kids books. ScheduleKid's Disco Join DJs from The Current as they spin kid AND adult-friendly music. At 12:00 and 2:00, learn a variety of dances to hip hop music. These fun sessions are adapted from the YWCA youth dance classes and teach basic choreography through natural movement, balance and play. Great for all ages! ScheduleKids On the Radio Three...two...one... you're on! Have your camera ready as our on-air hosts interview your kids, giving them a taste of what it's like to be on the radio! Sign up for your turn, then have a seat and listen to the rest of the interviews while you wait. A perfect photo op. ScheduleLive Performances Join us in the Arts Break Café for live performances from some of our favorite local artists. Desdamona performs hip hop with a positive message, accompanied by beat-boxer Carnage. Jeremy Messersmith is an emerging singer-songwriter who plays wistful pop songs that have earned accolades and awards for their simplicity and sweetness. Adam Levy is the accomplished leader of local favorites the Honeydogs; catch a rare performance of his original kid's songs today. ScheduleInstrument Petting Zoo Join Northwestern College Academy of Music for a hands-on musical experience! String, percussion and wind instruments are all available for your child to try. Find out if there's a budding professional musician in your household, or just someone who loves to make merry noise! Greater Twin Cities United Way Blanket Making Activity Help turn Minnesota's winter chill into a cozy experience for kids in need. Join United Way as we make 200 fleece blankets - a family volunteer activity to help improve lives and strengthen our community and an opportunity to learn about those who will receive a blanket. All ages can participate. Proceeds will benefit Casa de Esperanza, Home Free Battered Women's Service, Southside Family Nurturing Center and Washburn Child Guidance Center. Don't forget to watch our progress throughout the day at the giant cradle in the lobby. Photo ID Kits Emergencies are never planned, they just happen. Get some piece of mind with this simple photo identification kit which includes an up-to-date portrait of your child. Hands-On Art Making Celebrate music in art! Join us for a fun, hands-on art activity and create your own musicially inspired cubist collage. All ages welcome. Activity led by Minneapolis Institute of Arts Department of Public Programs. Music Together Calling all kids! Join instructors from Music Together Down in the Valley to enjoy singing, movement and rhythm instrument play for children from birth to four (older siblings welcome) and the grownups who love them. MIA Family Room Need a quiet space to take a break? Visit the MIA's Family Room any time throughout the day for some nice downtime before hitting another activity. Snack Bar Rockers can re-fuel with delicious, healthy and complimentary snacks that will keep you movin' and groovin. There is street and ramp parking around The Children's Theatre Company and MIA sites. On busy days these spaces fill quickly, so we have arranged for free parking and shuttle service from the Wells Fargo headquarters parking lot on 28th Street and 4th Avenue. Shuttles will leave the lot at 15 minute intervals beginning at 10:30 a.m. We recommend leaving strollers behind unless necessary. Our sponsors
