This week in State of the Arts, we consider how the local arts scene will change with the reshaping of art spaces in the Twin Cities, a new biography of Django Reinhart and Lori Barbero remembers British DJ, John Peel. Plus, Emily Johnson stages her new dance piece on global warming at The Soap Factory.

The Twin Cities will have a wave of expanded arts spaces opening in the next few years; Venues such as the Walker, Guthrie and the Minnesota Museum of American Art are all remodeling their spaces. How will the changes affect the arts community? Executive Director at the Minnesota State Arts Board, Bob Booker, and Linda Mack from the Star Tribune will join us and take your calls.

Django Reinhart
Local author, Michael Dregni, has published a new biography of gypsy guitarist, Django Reinhart. Reinhart created a new fingering system based on his ability to only function, with complete mobility, two fingers on his left hand.

John Peel
John Peel, BBC Radio 1's longest-serving DJ, died this week at the age of 65. Peel paved the way for many new bands in the UK and the United States. Locally, Peel had a big influence on several Minnesotan bands including Babes in Toyland. Lori Barbero, a member of the band, will share her experience with Peel.

Emily Johnson
Global warming has received relatively little attention in this year's presidential campaign. For Minneapolis choreographer Emily Johnson, it's a problem that can no longer be ignored or merely 'discussed.' Chris Roberts reports how in her latest dance piece, Johnson puts the audience in the middle of a world overheated by global warming.
