State of the Arts for February 13, 2004
Cultural critic Stanley Crouch joins us to talk about jazz and we check in with violist Michael Adams on the Minnesota Orchestra's European tour. Chris Roberts reports on what the Walker Art Center closing means to the Twin Cities scene. Plus, Marianne and Dominic will examine arts lobbying this legislative season.

Stanley CrouchStanley Crouch:
Stanley Crouch has an extensive background as a columnist, novelist, educator and critic. He was awarded the Jean Stein Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and also received a MacArthur Foundation grant. Since 1987 he has been an artistic consultant at Lincoln Center and is a cofounder of the Jazz at Lincoln Center department. Mr. Crouch will be joining us to share his ideas and enlighten us in the world of jazz.

Michael Adams of the Minnesota Orchestra:
The Minnesota Orchestra's 12-city tour began on February 9, 2004 with an almost sold out crowd at Carnegie Hall, New York. After crossing the Atlantic, Vänksä and his orchestra are preparing for their second concert in Vienna. Violist Michael Adams will update us in how Vänksä and his troop are doing.

This Saturday, February 14, the Walker is closing its doors to begin their $67.5 million renovation and expansion. Fear not, they are going out in style with the largest party they have thrown in existence. Chris Roberts meets with several Walker staff members to discuss how they are preparing for their transition.

Arts Lobbying:
Many arts organizations have seen the effects from the state budget cuts. The 2003-2004 biennial legislative session reconvened February 2. Who needs money? Who'll get money in this time of a tight state budget? Marianne and Dominic talk about arts and the new legislative session.
