State of the Arts for February 06, 2004
We'll be live in the Maud Moon Weyerhaeuser studio this week with Mason Jennings. We'll also check in on the Ibsen Festival in Lanesboro and Chris Roberts reports on the health of independent record stores in the Twin Cites.

Mason Jennings
Singer-songwriter Mason Jennings releases his latest CD next week, Use Your Voice. He joins us live to talk about being on the road, running an independent record label, fatherhood and what art inspires him. He brings his guitar along, too, to play some of the new tunes.

Ibsen Festival

It's a bitterly cold and snowy winter—a perfect time to head down to Lanesboro for some bracing Scandinavian theater. The Commonweal Theatre Company hosts its 7th Annual Ibsen Festival. We'll talk about the dour dramatist and why they think he is a tourist draw.

The Electric Fetus in Minneapolis is widely regarded as the pre-eminent indie record store in Minnesota. It boasts a deep selection of music in nearly every genre.documentIndependent record stores
After years of slumping CD sales and the illegal downloading of songs, the music retail industry is finally embracing the digital age. Many industry observers say the shift to digital delivery of music spells doom for the independent record store. Yet, the few such stores that remain in the Twin Cities say reports of their impending death may be premature. We have a report from Chris Roberts.
