Justice Sandra Day O'Connor was the first woman justice appointed to the Supreme Court. She served from 1981 until her retirement in 2006. In 2009 she helped launched iCivics.org, an interactive website designed to teach students about civics. Justice David Souter was appointed by President George H. W.
