  • Bin Laden Corpse Photos Won't Be Released
    President Obama has decided not to release the photos of Osama bin Laden taken after he was shot dead in Pakistan by U.S. forces. In an interview with CBS's 60 Minutes, Obama said bin Laden got the justice he deserved and there was no need to publish photographs to prove it.

    Beverly Eckert lost her husband, Sean Rooney, on Sept. 11, 2001. He called her from the 105th floor of the World Trade Center's south tower. As the smoke got thicker, he told Beverly he loved her, over and over. Later, she became an advocate for families affected by the tragedy.

    Israel has been trying to negotiate a peace settlement with the Palestinian Authority. This week, Hamas joined the Palestinian's unity government. Michael Oren, Israel's ambassador to the U.S., tells Steve Inskeep that it will be "extremely difficult" to negotiate with a group that includes Hamas.
  • Defense Rests In Trial Involving Murdered Journalist
    In Oakland, Calif., the prosecution and defense have rested in the trial of a man accused of ordering the murder of a well-known journalist. Chauncey Bailey, an editor for a local community paper, was gunned down in August 2007. Prosecutors say Bailey was killed because he had run afoul of the leader of a local Black Muslim group.
  • Daniels Takes Time To Consider A Presidential Run
    Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels is expected to make an announcement soon on whether he will run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012. Daniels was in Washington D.C. Wednesday, but he gave no indication if he will run for president.
  • Bill To Bar Abortion Tax Subsidies Passes House
    Lawmakers in the House have voted to pass a bill that would ban tax subsidies for many private insurance plans that include coverage for abortions services. The bill would make permanent an existing law that Congress has renewed every year since the 1970s.
  • Plan Would Trade Medicaid Funds For Flexibility
    The budget passed by the House would give states more authority over Medicaid — but less money over time. GOP governors say they'll embrace the chance to have more flexibility over their budgets, but critics say society's most vulnerable would suffer.
  • Avon Fires Executives In Bribery Probe
    The cosmetics giant is conducting an internal investigation into possible bribery of foreign officials. Avon reported to U.S. regulators that it had fired one of its top officials, and three executives in its China office, over bribes.

    Many believe that one of the biggest challenges poor people face is hunger, but economist Abhijit Banerjee argues that the economics of poverty are often much more nuanced. Banerjee looks at how poor people make economic decisions in his book, Poor Economics.
