A popular blood test for prostate cancer is leading many men to get treated for cancer when the treatment might not make much of a difference, according to a study in the current issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. The study's conclusions are in agreement with two earlier studies published last spring in the New England Journal of Medicine. - Examining Numbers In Bradley Op-Ed
In a New York Times op-ed, former Sen. Bill Bradley wrote that 10 percent of "every health care dollar paid by individuals and companies" goes toward malpractice costs. Anne Underwood, contributor to The New York Times blog Prescriptions, says the number is closer to 1-1.5 percent. - Disney Buys Marvel In $4B Deal
Disney has bought Marvel Entertainment at a cost of $4 billion. Dawn Chmielewski, a Los Angeles Times staff writer who covers the entertainment industry, says Disney gains access to a young, male audience. Marvel, she says, gets access to Disney's global reach.
