ANSWER OPTION
Oppose. The program has become politicized, and Congress recently passed legislation to expand SCHIP coverage beyond children, beyond U.S. citizens and beyond those who are truly in need, and ... that is where the problem lies.

Issue Question Position
No Child Left Behind Do you favor or oppose the education program known as "No Child Left Behind?" ANSWER OPTION
I oppose all unfunded federal mandates, including NCLB, which force schools to do even more with fewer dollars and shift the burden to local school districts and property taxpayers. We have to either repeal NCLB or deliver the federal funding it originally promised to help schools succeed.
Universal health care Do you favor or oppose universal health care? ANSWER OPTION
A system of universal health care should include both private and competitively-priced public plans, so individuals can decide which option works best for their health needs.
SCHIP On October 3, 2007, President Bush vetoed a bill expanding the SCHIP program, to provide health care to 10 million more children. The program is designed to subsidize health coverage for families that earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but not enough to afford private insurance. Do you favor or oppose the proposed expansion? ANSWER OPTION
It's time for us to get serious about universal health care, beginning with expanding SCHIP to cover every American child.
Issue Question Position
Stem cell research Should federal funding be used to expand embryonic stem cell research? ANSWER OPTION
The potential life-saving benefits are too great to ignore.
Social Security Do you favor privatizing Social Security to any degree? ANSWER OPTION
Social Security can be preserved without resorting to reckless privatization schemes by adjusting taxes and benefits in small steps and shoring up any temporary deficits with loans.
Immigration What is your stance on immigration? ANSWER OPTION
I support establishing a pathway to legal status for undocumented workers who are living here, paying taxes, and contributing to our economy, and I support efforts to crack down on employers who hire illegal workers.
Issue Question Position
Same-sex marriage Do you favor or oppose a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman? ANSWER OPTION
No. Civil unions should be available for all couples regardless of sexual orientation. The decision on how and when to bless these relationships should belong to the couple and their faith community.
Abortion Do you favor or oppose legalized abortion? ANSWER OPTION
Though I am personally committed to reducing abortion, I will not vote to erode Roe V. Wade in any way. There are things we can do that we all agree on: funding comprehensive sex education, ensuring universal health care, providing child care options, and creating economic opportunities for pregnant women and new mothers. All of these things are proven to decrease the incidence of abortion.
Global warming Which camp: Global warming or climate change? ANSWER OPTION
Global warming has achieved near-universal scientific consensus. It's real and we can't ignore it.
Issue Question Position
Energy policy What is your plan for meeting future energy needs? ANSWER OPTION
We need to move forward on many fronts to help America become energy independent, including responsible domestic exploration, increasing fuel efficiency standards, creating tax incentives for renewable energy, and encouraging conservation. We also need to invest in our country's infrastructure to conserve energy, create jobs and fuel the economy.
