Candidate Positions on Stem cell research

The following positions reflect those used for each candidate in the Select A Candidate survey. They come from the candidates; public statements, Web sites, and responses to Minnesota Public Radio questionnaires. In some cases, candidiates have failed to respond to inquiries, and their position is noted as "No known opinion."

Question: Do you believe federally-funded stem-cell research should be expanded to allow for additional embryonic stem cell research?
Brian DavisBrian Davis ANSWER OPTION: One does not need to destroy a human embryo to do stem cell research, there are other sources of stem cells.
 CANDIDATE'S POSITION: I believe a human life and human being begin at conception. I oppose abortion, I believe we should respect and protect life. I know as a doctor and medical researcher that one does not need to destroy a human embryo to do stem cell research, that there are other sources of stem cells. (More Info)

Tim WalzTim Walz ANSWER OPTION: Yes, I support federal funding for stem cell reasearch.
 CANDIDATE'S POSITION: On June 7, 2007, Walz voted "yes" on the Stem Cell Enhancement Act, which would amend the Public Health Service Act to allow for additional embryonic stem cell research.
