We need to control who is coming here and why. We need to control our borders with Canada and Mexico. Stopping any more illegal immigration must be a priority. For those who are here illegally we must develop a system for them to go home and apply for legal immigration.

Same-sex marriage Do you favor or oppose a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman? ANSWER OPTION
I am in favor of traditional marriage as being between one man and one woman.

Issue Question Candidate Position
Housing crisis What do you think should be done -- if anything -- in the wake of the near collapse of companies specializing in subprime mortgages, and the foreclosures of homes? ANSWER OPTION
I would like to see a bailout package that would restructure existing subprime mortgages. If a homeowner can't refinance because the value of the house has plummeted, the government could step in to fill the gap between a home's existing value and the original value when the mortgage was taken out.

Iraq War Do you favor or oppose a set date (timeline) for the removal of U.S. troops from Iraq? ANSWER OPTION
The surge has worked. We must continue to support the troops and listen to their commanders. We must work with the Iraq government to further stabilize the country so our troops can come home.

Energy policy What is your plan for meeting future energy needs? ANSWER OPTION
A balanced plan for more oil drilling off shore, building refineries to increase capacity and an increase in natural gas supply will bring our current markets in line and reduce gas and diesel prices. Policies that encourage new nuclear plants, hydrogen, wind, solar and bio-fuels can play a larger role as technological advancements bring stability and cost competition issues in line.
