| No Child Left Behind | Do you favor or oppose the education program known as "No Child Left Behind?" |
ANSWER OPTION No, policymakers have sought to improve American schools by increasing government control. But decades of increased spending and increased federal control have yielded little improvement in student performance. CANDIDATE'S POSITION Every year, millions of children pass through America's schools without receiving a quality education that prepares them to succeed in life, to compete in the increasingly competitive global economy, and to maintain the blessings and responsibilities of a free society. Among African American and Hispanic students, for example, only 56 and 52 percent of students graduate from high school. This widespread failure imposes unquantifiable costs on individual lives and our communities. As a country, it imperils our national security. For years, policymakers have sought to improve American schools by increasing government control. But decades of increased spending and increased federal control have yielded little improvement in student performance. (More Info) Back to top |

| Immigration | What is your stance on immigration? |
ANSWER OPTION We must secure our borders and re-evaluate and revise a rational and fair immigration policy: Fair to those who have played by the rules and fair to the taxpayer. CANDIDATE'S POSITION We must secure our borders and re-evaluate and revise a rational and fair immigration policy: Fair to those who have played by the rules and fair to the taxpayer. And rational with regards to the demand for labor and the high costs of repatriation. For example, the DREAM Act, which my opponent unreservedly supports, should only be enacted as part of a comprehensive immigration reform and border enforcement effort. Also, instead of conditional residence, beneficiaries (that is the children of illegal immigrants without legal status themselves) should get temporary student VISAS and Work VISAs upon completion instead of permanent residency. | Abortion | Do you favor or oppose legalized abortion? |
ANSWER OPTION As a Patriot I believe that the first right according to the Constitution of the United States is that of LIFE. CANDIDATE'S POSITION Rather, the protection of life and of individual liberties is the Constitution's duty to the governed. The will of the people, expressed in law and executed by constitutional mechanisms is the surest form of protection of life. Roe v. Wade does not pass this constitutional test and ought to be overturned by the Supreme Court of the United States; the issue should then be returned to the states and their electorates. | Iraq War | Do you favor or oppose a set date (timeline) for the removal of U.S. troops from Iraq? |
ANSWER OPTION I support withdrawing troops once Iraq is stable, but not before. CANDIDATE'S POSITION Iraq is stabilizing due to the American Armed Forces, and our ally's efforts. The Surge has been successful. I would insist that we begin to encourage the Iraqi government to strongly govern itself and then we begin to pull out and bring our troops home. I would ask other members of Congress to help closely and continuously monitor with me the ongoing efforts and set up a plan to decrease our troop numbers there. Although I have not yet served in the 111th Congress, my plans are to give magnanimous credit to our Armed Forces and those who serve our Country. I am hoping for a pull out of our troops as soon as there is a stabilization of the new Iraqi Government. (More Info) Back to top |

| Energy policy | What is your plan for meeting future energy needs? |
ANSWER OPTION We need to encourage environmentally responsible exploration of domestic energy supplies; limit red tape on domestic refineries, encourage alternative energy such as nuclear power and natural gas. CANDIDATE'S POSITION The goal of a Federal Energy Policy should be to enhance national energy security within the context of the global market. Therefore, we need to increase supply; change or diversify demand and allow for governmental incentives to both existing and emerging technologies in the form of tax breaks and research and development aid. We need to repeal the $18 billion dollar ethanol subsidies. One quarter of American corn is turned into fuel. Fuel and food prices are now linked in the form of biofuels and have wreaked havoc on the world's food markets and people are going hungry. The World Bank estimates the amount of corn needed to fill one SUV's tank with biofuel is enough to feed 1 person for an entire year. We need to boost supply and enhance productivity. The US is the only oil producing country which restricts development of a substantial amount of its energy production. We need to encourage environmentally responsible exploration of domestic energy supplies; limit red tape on domestic refineries, encourage alternative energy such as nuclear power and natural gas.
