Stem cell research Do you believe federally-funded stem-cell research should be expanded to allow for additional embryonic stem cell research? ANSWER OPTION
Yes, I support federal funding for stem cell reasearch.

CANDIDATE'S POSITION
On June 7, 2007, Walz voted "yes" on the Stem Cell Enhancement Act, which would amend the Public Health Service Act to allow for additional embryonic stem cell research. Back to top
Immigration What is your stance on immigration? ANSWER OPTION
Support a path to citizenship for undocumented workers that requires them to return to their country of origin in order to begin the citizenship process.

CANDIDATE'S POSITION
Tim Walz believes immigration reform is a serious issue that deserves an ethical, economically sound solution. Walz supports enforcing employer labor laws to the fullest extent, using advanced technology to monitor the border, and increasing the number of professional border patrol agents. The best thing that ever happened to me was to get married and I don't see a reason to deny that to anyone.

Abortions should always be legal.

CANDIDATE'S POSITION
On a Congressional National Political Awareness Test in 2006 Walz answered that "abortions should always be legal." The NPAT is administered to all candidates for presidential, congressional, gubernatorial, and state legislative offices. (More Info)

War in Afghanistan What changes would you propose to the war policy in Afghanistan ANSWER OPTION
We forget that Afghanistan is the real front in the fight against Al Qaeda. If we fail to monitor this situation closely and offer appropriate assistance, we risk losing ground.

CANDIDATE'S POSITION
On June 6, 2007 Tim Walz joined a bipartisan group of his colleagues in passing H.R. 2446, the Afghanistan Freedom and Security Support Act of 2007. The legislation renewed our commitment to Afghanistan while adding provisions to combat new problems. Walz said: "Specifically, H.R. 2446 combats the rampant growth of poppy production, it reaffirms the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan, and it makes a substantial commitment to the protection of human rights in Afghanistan." Congressman Walz joined the Bipartisan Energy Working Group and helped develop a compromise energy bill, H.R. 6709, that will use nearly $1 trillion in new royalties from expanded drilling to finance renewable energy research and development. (More Info)
