Obama's Guantanamo Order Examined

from National Public Radio
January 22, 2009

John Bellinger, former legal adviser to former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, says he welcomes President Barack Obama's order to close the detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, within the year, but warns that it might not be easy.

"They are going to have a difficult time with it," he says.

Bellinger says Obama's order does not address the issue of how and where the detainees at Guantanamo will be prosecuted, noting current U.S. law may not have jurisdiction over the detainees.
