Pedestrian fatally struck by Green Line train

A pedestrian was fatally struck by a Green Line train Sunday morning near the Westgate Station at University Avenue and Emerald Street.
This is the first Green Line fatality since opening in June.
Officials described the woman as being about 40 years old. Her identity has yet to be released.

Metro Transit's Bruce Howard said the woman was crossing the tracks near Berry Street along University Avenue when she was hit around 10:15 a.m.
She may have been wearing headphones, Howard said.
The train operator was replaced and will undergo drug and alcohol testing, which is Metro Transit protocol.
It is the second pedestrian accident on the Green Line in a week. Last Monday, a pedestrian was struck while crossing the tracks at University Avenue and Chatsworth Street in Saint Paul. He had non-life threatening injuries.
