Bus fight led to fatal shooting in north Minneapolis

A verbal confrontation on a Metro Transit bus led to a shooting in the street that killed one man Thursday night in north Minneapolis.

Police said no one is in custody and they are still searching for a suspect.

The shooting took place at the intersection of North 26th Avenue and Penn Avenue North. Officers arrived to the 6:59 p.m. shooting call and found the man dead.

"We believe the incident started as a verbal confrontation on a Metro Transit bus, however, the shooting occurred in the street," Minneapolis Police Department spokesman Scott Seroka said. "At this point, we do not believe this is a random incident."

The victim will be identified by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office and police will release more information as it becomes available, Seroka said.

A second, unrelated shooting happened just 20 minutes later in north Minneapolis, according to Seroka. The second shooting took place at North 24th Avenue and Lyndale Avenue North. The victim's injuries were not life-threatening.

There is also no suspect in custody in the second shooting.
