St. Paul, Minn. —
Every weekday morning at 10 a.m., the hosts at Classical MPR play a standout work based on the theme for the week. We call these works Morning Glories.
In our Morning Glories this week, we'll hear from six well-practiced pianists, all performing at Carnegie Hall. One of them will also be featured on New Classical Tracks this Wednesday, and on our Minnesota Orchestra broadcast this Friday.
Haydn: Sonata No. 60
Lang Lang may be best known for Romantic repertoire. Here he turns his hand to some elegant Haydn.
Brahms: Piano Pieces, Op. 119
Andre Watts played these pieces at Carnegie, to mark his 25th anniversary as a recitalist.
Beethoven: Sonata No. 32
From 2000, here's Mikhail Pletnev, playing Beethoven's last sonata.
Schubert: Fantasy in F minor
The Schubert Fantasy is one of the masterpieces of the piano duet literature. It's performed here by James Levine and Evgeny Kissin.
This is the brand-new disc from Daniil Trifonov, who appears with the Minnesota Orchestra tonight.
