Classical music anniversaries in 2014, from C.P.E. Bach to Adolphe Sax

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Happy New Year! Here's this year's list of major classical music anniversaries.

Nothing huge in 2014, except for C.P.E. Bach and Gluck fans (300th), and saxophone mavens (Adolphe Sax 200th). The usual disclaimers and ideosyncracies apply:

* Birthdays only, no death anniversaries

* Mostly major names (plus a few interesting minor ones, but no attempt to be comprehensive)

* Mostly classical musicians (plus a few interesting others)

* For living musicians, only birthdays ending in zero.

* For dead musicians, only birthday anniversaries ending in two zeros.

* No 150th anniversaries; call me sesquiphobic, but as a demarcation of time passing, 150 years is not as compelling as 100, 200, etc.

Away we go! Prepare to feel old. Or, young...
