Top Score: Best Video Game Soundtracks of 2013, Number 1

St. Paul, Minn. — Garry Schyman's score for BioShock Infinite was my favorite score in 2013.

The music is immersive, relevant and emotional.

Schyman had the option to use a full orchestra, but decided against it, preferring the intimacy of a handful of string players. Here's "Elizabeth":

Even the combat music is sparsely scored, yet its impact is no less effective. Take "The Songbird" for instance:

Schyman was influenced by the Father of American Music, Stephen Foster, as evidenced in the lyrical "Lighter Than Air":
