Kristina Butler, 2013 Showcase Artist

Age: 18

From: Burnsville, Minn.

Attends: St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.

I am earning my bachelor's degree in music at St. Olaf College. I am singing in the freshman women's choir and playing flute in the St. Olaf Band, and enjoying every minute!

Since Minnesota Varsity, I have expanded my repertoire and have begun to dig deeper into music. Technique, music theory, and music history have become incredibly important as I grow as a musician and consider my life after college, including singing professionally. At the same time, I have learned from Minnesota Varsity that putting myself out there as a musician is also exceptionally important.

I still think about my experience in Minnesota Varsity and how thrilling it was to be a part of that process! It has given me a wonderful sense of self-assurance as a musician, but also has opened my eyes to the countless other dedicated young musicians who are in my community.

Minnesota Varsity 2014 opens for submissions on Wednesday, Oct. 23. More details will be available on that day.
