ST. PAUL, Minn. — Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 7 is dedicated to the memory of his wife, Nina.

In the quartet, Shostakovich paints a portrait of his marriage that is truthful and deeply emotional. His relationship with Nina was loving but troubled, and the music of the seventh quartet doesn't pull any punches.

On today's Regional Spotlight, the Pacifica Quartet performs this autobiographical work in a performance taken from a recent Schubert Club/Music in the Park concert.
