African-American religious leaders plan to hold a rally Wednesday afternoon in response to a shooting yesterday in north Minneapolis. Three people suffered non-life-threatening injuries, including a toddler who was shot in the shoulder.
"Entire communities have been ravaged," said Harding Smith, pastor of Spiritual Church of God in Brooklyn Center. "Our people come to know nothing but grief, anger, frustration, abandonment by their lawmakers, who see it as political suicide to go after the all too powerful NRA."
Smith said he hopes the incident will spur the Legislature to pursue tougher gun control laws.
Police have requested the public's help in locating the alleged shooter, who they say fled on foot from the 29-hundred block of Lyndale Avenue North after firing into a crowd about 5:30 yesterday afternoon.
